  • Continuing professional development of nurse practitioners through local chapter meetings and our annual conference
  • Representation of nurse practitioners with professional, community and governmental groups
  • Current job opportunities postings on our website

Membership dues are $100 annually with a reduced rate for students and retired NP's. Membership applications are available either online or by printed copy.

Our 2008 Annual Conference was held in Roanoke, Virginia in March with 375 attendees from around the state. We offered five clinical tracks- general practice, women's health, acute care, mental health, and pediatrics. There were outstanding presentations for our general session as well as pre-conference workshops on topics of interest such as office procedures, joint injections, interpretation of arrhythmias and coding. The conference committee is led by Cindy Fagan with representatives from each of our eleven regions. Our 2009 conference will be held at the Williamsburg Lodge, in Williamsburg, Virginia from March 18-21. Please plan to join us.

The Government Relations Committee, led by Mary Duggan, is active in efforts to advance legislation that removes barriers to practice. You will find information on our website under the Members Only section that reviews regulatory requirements such as the protocol for practice. Thanks to the leadership of this committee, we are delighted to be able to offer those we serve the benefits of full prescriptive authority for Schedules II-VI due to legislative advances in 2007. Please remember to update your prescriptive authority agreement when applying for your DEA license.

Your opportunities for participation are unlimited. Please join this dynamic group of nurse practitioners as we work together on our mission:

To promote the advancement and professional development of nurse practitioners in order to enhance the health care of citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Sincerely,

Diane Walker RN, MSN, FNP
President
