VCHI Scholarship: Pursue your Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certificate

VHCF offers full scholarships for motivated nurse practitioners (NPs) to earn a post-Master’s Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certificate at an accredited school of nursing. In return, scholarship recipients are required to complete a two-year service commitment, providing behavioral health services to underserved Virginians.

Virginia is experiencing a mental health crisis due to the high demand for mental health services and a shortage of licensed mental health providers. Both Psychiatrists and Psych NPs are trained and licensed to prescribe and manage psychotropic medicines, critical to treat many mental health conditions. Increasing the number of Psych NPs practicing in Virginia is one strategy to help address the need for prescribers to meet current need and future demand for psychiatric care.
